چکیده

Numerous research data have been obtained about the Sumdo Palaeo‐Tethys, but reports on occurrence of Permian Ocean islands are relatively scarce. Here, we present zircon U–Pb geochronology, geochemistry, and in situ Hf isotopic characteristics ocean island basalt (OIB)‐type gabbros from Ewulang Nianqing‐Sumdo, Tibet. The age OIB‐type is 263 Ma (the Middle Permian), representing formation gabbros. geochemical samples show no contamination by crustal material. Meanwhile, all enriched light rare earths (LREEs) large‐ionic lithophile elements (LILEs), which similar to typical OIB. In various discriminant diagrams, fall into fields OIB related tectonic settings, indicating that rocks were formed oceanic environment within plate. Various indicators imply may originate mantle plume ε ( t ) values range −0.34 +4.30, suggesting magmas derived an source. Combined with regional previous studies, this article further confirms Palaeo‐Tethys extends west Nianqing‐Sumdo area Tangjia (Zhikong)‐Sumdo was still basin a certain scale during Permian.

Rhodolith bed: a newly discovered habitat in the North Pacific Ocean

Rhodoliths are unattached calcareous red algae that form extensive beds. Although rhodolith beds are widely distributed in temperate and tropical areas, a recent discovery in the North Pacific Ocean represents a significant northward extension of known rhodolith distribution. This bed, located in Prince William Sound, Alaska, is composed of one rhodolith species, Phymatolithon calcareum, with t...
